Brief facts about systems:
A system is a group of interacting or interrelated elements that act according to a set of rules to form a unified whole. A system, surrounded and influenced by its environment, is described by its boundaries, structure and purpose and is expressed in its functioning. Systems are the subjects of study of systems theory and other systems sciences. Systems have several common properties and characteristics, including structure, function, behavior and interconnectivity.
Physical system - A physical system is a collection of physical objects under study. The collection differs from a set: all the objects must coexist and have some physical relationship. In other words, it is a portion of the physical universe chosen for analysis.
Conceptual system - A conceptual system is a system of abstract concepts, of various kinds. The abstract concepts can range "from numbers, to emotions, and from social roles, to mental states.. ". These abstract concepts are themselves grounded in multiple systems.
Control system - A control system manages, commands, directs, or regulates the behavior of other devices or systems using control loops.
Complex system - A complex system is a system composed of many components which may interact with each other.
Formal system - A formal system is an abstract structure and formalization of an axiomatic system used for inferring theorems from axioms by a set of inference rules. In 1921, David Hilbert proposed to use formal systems as the foundation of knowledge in mathematics.
Information system - An information system is a formal, sociotechnical, organizational system designed to collect, process, store, and distribute information. From a sociotechnical perspective, information systems are composed by four components: task, people, structure, and technology.
